Villopoto Creeps Closer to Dungey with Toronto Win

TORONTO, ONTARIO- Kawasaki rider Ryan Villopoto (Pictured Left) locked up his fifth win of the season on Saturday night in Toronto.

In the 450 A-Main, Hondra rider Trey Canard broke through the starting gate to get the holeshot and the lead, coming out of Turn 1. Villopoto made his move, breaking free from now second place Canard. Canard raced hard in second, with the rookie points leader Ryan Dungey trailing closely in third. Dungey took second from Canard, but wasn't able to catch up to the very fast No. 2 of Villopoto in the late stages of the race. Dungey finished the night with a very competitive 2nd place finish, while Canard raced hard for a third place showing. Fourth went to the always competitive Ivan Tedesco, while Kevin Windham raced through the field to pick up the fifth finishing spot. The fifth place finish at Toronto gave Windham his 100th career Top 5 finish in AMA Supercross competition. Personally, that is amazing. I give a big shout out to Windham, one of the best to race AMA Supercross.

Behind Windham was Josh Hill in sixth. Seventh went to Nick Wey. Tommy Hahn put together another solid run to finish eighth. Nineth place belonged to Justin Brayton, while tenth went to Matt Boni.

Villopoto's victory brings the gap to within 17 points of Dungey for the AMA Supercross points lead. Dungey is atop the standings with 214. Villopoto's 197 points puts him in second. Hill sits in third with 177 points this season. Fourth in points goes to Davi Millsaps with 152. With his Top 5 finish, Windham is fifth in points with 147.

The Monster Energy Supercross Series will pack up their gear and head to the great state of Texas, to take on the dirt track course at the New Dallas Cowboys Stadium. The Stadium will be rocking when the racers flick their wrists, and accerelate into turn one. Don't miss a turn. You can catch all the action from the starting gate to the checkers on Speed. Coverage starts at 8 P.M. on Saturday, March 20th. I'LL BE WATCHING. WILL YOU?
