Exciting Weekend Ahead at Daytona

Patrick Is Ready for the Challenge
 Written By: Matt "Night" Rider

DAYTONA, FL.- Daytona International Speedway is where dreams are made. Every driver who comes to Daytona has one thing on his/her mind and that is to win. This year is no exception, as drivers from both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup series gear up for an exciting weekend of racing action from the legendary speedway.

The action kicked off on Thursday afternoon, when the Sprint Cup Series raced the always competitve Gatorade Duels. Winning the first leg of the Duels was last season's Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson, who edged out this year's Bud Shootout victor Kevin Harvick for the win. If that wasn't exciting enough, we had another Gatorade Duel still to race. In the second and final race of the afternoon, Kasey Kahne barely beat out Tony Stewart to the line for the win.  Former Formula 1 racer Scott Speed took the final transfer spot for the 500, helping Michael Waltrip secure his spot in Sunday's big race.

The starting grid for the 2010 Daytona 500 has been set. Mark Martin will lead the field to the green flag, flaked by Dale Earnhardt Jr. who will look to get his season off right, starting the 500 in second place. The Wood Brothers will make their 49th Daytona 500 appearance, with Bill Elliott behind the famous No.21. Elloitt will take the green flag in 40th.

On the Nationwide Series side, Danica Patrick is set to qualify on today around 3 pm, and start in Saturday's Drive4C0PD 300 live on ESPN or your local racing networks. Patrick was 26th fastest in her first practice, but rebounded to finish 5th fastest in the second practice.

After an exciting week of preparation, it all comes down to this. Let's see who will capture the dream and leave an indelible mark in the record books of the legendary Daytona International Speedway.
