Cottle Takes Second Straight Feature at Gas City

GAS CITY, IN- Kokomo racer Shane Cottle (Left) swept the night, winning the first heat, along with the feature from the pole position. Taking a second place finish was West Terre Haute native Blake Fitzpatrick. Third belonged to No. 71P Billy Puterbaugh Jr.

Fourth went to USAC veteran Dave Darland, who raced the No. 10D 24 Hour Truck Service sprint, between nights off from the regular USAC schedule. Rounding out the top five was No. 27A Andrew Elson. Just outside the top five was Jon Stanbrough in sixth and Thomas Meseraull in seventh. Eighth went to Huntington Beach, CA. native Nic Faas, while the 2009 Hoosier Hundred winner Shane Hollingsworth had another good run, finishing the night in nineth. Taking the final spot in the top ten was No. 18W Travis Welpott.

In UMP Modified action, Marion native Scotty Orr took the checkered flag. Feature polesitter No. 14 Andy Bishop hung around the top spot to nab a strong second place finish. Third place honors went to No. 20 Steven Hogue. Taking fourth was the No. 20x UMP Modified, driven by Steve Hughes, while the No. 25P of Bub Patrick rounded out the top five UMP Modifed feature finishers.

No. 35 James Headley piloted his Street Stock to victory lane, winning the 20 lap Street Stock feature. Polesitter Thurman Wines stayed around the top spot, coming away with a second place finish. The No. 37 Street Stock of Scott Hubbard took third place, while fourth went to Ervin Turner, who switched cars with Chad Satterthwaite before the feature. Fifth place went to No. 12 Jesse Dixon.

The No. 12x Thunder Car of Josh Owens cruised to another impressive Thunder Car feature. Ron Flaugh took second place honors in his No. 41F Thunder Car, while DJ Holt raced his way to a top three finish. Bryan Martin took fourth, while Trenton Vogts came away with a top five finish.

The Gas City Speedway returns to live this Friday, August 14th with their regular program of Non wing sprints, UMP Modifieds, UMP Street Stocks, and Thunder Cars, so get out there and cheer on your favorite racers as they do battle at the Gas City Speedway.
